01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

With layers of vivid blue jelly, kiwi, strawberries, and yogurt milk jelly, the Butterfly Pea Parfait is an eye-catching highlight of tea time at Charmy Chat. The sweet menu extends to moist baked banana chiffon cake, matcha chiffon dotted with black soybeans and served with sweet red bean paste, and homemade cheesecake, giving visitors plenty of appealing choices whether finishing a meal or stopping by for afternoon tea. The drinks list makes creative use of distinctive ingredients, featuring house-made soda syrup crafted from red shiso grown in Ohara, northern Kyoto, as well as a red shiso frappe combining ice cream and jelly, and gentle soy milk beverages.

Vibrant lunches shaped by seasonal rhythms

Diners arriving at midday will find the Colorful 35-Ingredient Lunch, a plate that changes with the rhythm of the 24 traditional solar terms. Centered on homegrown produce and vegetables harvested from nearby farms, the platter is generously loaded with varied obanzai, small side dishes, soup, and a blend of sixteen-grain rice, letting you savor the seasonal harvest through a wide array of preparations. For a heartier meal, you can opt for an obanzai course or a meat main, and complete the table with drink and dessert sets tailored to your appetite.

Relaxing in the atmosphere of a classic townhouse

Set within an old machiya, the interior offers regular table seating alongside tatami rooms where guests can stretch their legs and gaze quietly out onto the courtyard garden. With a cup of single-origin coffee such as Mandheling or Mocha, or one of the house blends in hand, it is an inviting space to slow down and unwind without feeling rushed. Seats can fill up around noon, making advance reservations a good idea if you are visiting primarily for lunch.
